Types Of Irrigation Systems
Lawn Sprinklers:
Irrigating your lawn is an essential part of maintaining a healthy and beautiful landscape. Water is by far one of the most important elements to the success of your lawn. Without proper watering, your lawn can turn brown, damage the condition of the soil, and the grass can potentially die. Protecting your investment of your property is important to have peace of mind over.
Lawn irrigation lines are installed below the ground approx. 6-12 inches. When activated, there are rotor heads that pop up a few inches out of the height of the grass that rotate up to 360 degrees to cover an area no more than a 25 foot radius. When turned off, the sprinkler head drop down becoming flush with the ground.
Landscape Bed Irrigation:
Irrigation in your landscape beds is essential to maintaining healthy plants. The few months after installation of new plants is the most important time frame for watering. The reason for this is because the roots of the plants needs to be established in the native surrounding soil.
Even following the years after the plants have been installed, during dry periods with little to no rain, watering the plants is essential to keeping them healthy and alive!
Landscape bed irrigation lines are installed below the ground approx. 6-12 inches. When activated, there are spray heads that pop up a few inches out of the landscape bed. The spray heads spray a pre-set width to cover an area no more than a 12 foot radius. When turned off, the spray head drop down becoming flush with the ground.
Drip Irrigation:
Drip irrigation is commonly used for trees and shrubs in landscape beds. It is often paired with landscape irrigation spray heads to allow for coverage of the entire planting bed.
Unlike landscape bed or lawn irrigation systems that emit water in the open, the drip line is a small hose that is placed under the mulch layer. The hose with a bunch of holes around it that allows water to discharge out at many different points water directly to the roots of the plants.
Drip irrigation provides a slow and steady drip to the the plants directly where they need it the most. This help reduce the risk of disease by preventing water contact with the leaves, stems, and fruit of the plants.
Spring Start Up:
After your irrigation has been installed, coming into the Spring to prepare for activation of the system, a start up service is needed. Right around April, technicians will test the backflow preventer, inspect the entire system for damage, make adjustments to the irrigations heads (spray and rotor) making sure it has the proper coverage, as well as test the entire system to make sure it is functioning properly.
Once this is complete, then the system is good to for for the year!
Winterization:
Winding down the year, it is essential to winterize your irrigation system to prevent costly repairs. Being in New Jersey and Pennsylvania where we experience below freezing temperatures, if your irrigation system is not winterized, it will lead to pipes freezing and bursting. To prevent this, timely professional irrigation winterization is a must.
Starting after Labor Day and concluding around mid November, technicians will winterize your irrigation system. Winteriation is the process of taking pressurized air and “blowing out the lines”. The pressurized air is used to remove excess water trapped in the lines underground. The system is then shut off for the year.
How Do I Maintain My Irrigation System(s)?
How Much Does An Irrigation System Cost?
Irrigation systems are utilized to save time, money, and provide peace of mind knowing your lawn and landscape is taken care of. The initial investment does vary project to project since there are many contributing factors that determine pricing. Those factors include the following:
Being on well or city water
The amount of square foot of lawn or landscape beds that need to be covered
The amount of trees or shrubs that needs to have drip irrigation
How many zones are going to be installed
Irrigation Zone - an area of irrigation heads or drip irrigation that is connected to one valve
Access to water hook up for the system
Type of timer that is used
With all of these factors being considered, you can see there can be a wide range of variables that effects pricing. Our irrigation systems do have a minimum starting price of $4,950 and can go up from there.
Landscape Bed Spray Heads:
A general rule of thumb is each zone contains approx. 8-10 spray heads that covers a radius of 12’ max per head. For each zone installed, there is a starting price of $975 per zone.
Lawn Irrigation Rotor Heads:
A general rule of thumb is each zone contains approx. 4-5 rotor heads that covers a radius of 25’ max per head. For each zone installed, there is a starting price of $975 per zone.
Drip Irrigation:
A general rule of thumb is each zone can contain up to 15 total trees or shrubs. For each zone installed, there is a starting price of $975 per zone.
Wi-Fi Time Clock:
When setting up an irrigation system, you need to have a time clock installed to tell the system when to turn on and off. Having a wireless bluetooth time clock that can be controlled from your phone starts at $285.
Spring Start Up & Winterization:
For the spring start up service and winterization, each maintenance visit starts at $165 up to 5 zones and is an additional $6 per zone above 5.
